The North Screen

<p>The Fenn Residence is a four-bedroom house with a built-up area of 5,000 square feet on a compact 2,400 square-foot urban plot. Located in South Bangalore near Hulimavu Lake, the home’s structure is an RCC frame with concrete block walls. It is organized around a dramatic 30-foot-high atrium at its heart.</p><p>This central atrium, along with a double-height “north screen” facade and clerestory windows, floods the interiors with natural light. Even on the darkest days, the house receives abundant daylight (over 1000 lux) through skylights and high-level openings. Cozy bay windows in the children’s rooms, study, and bedrooms provide inviting nooks at the building’s edges to sit and reflect even on dim days. The design demonstrates how thoughtful use of light and ventilation can transform a dense urban site into a bright, airy family home.</p>
